"Remembering Tomorrow" – the new programme from the Federal Office of Justice
The Confederation aims to raise public awareness of the findings of the compulsory social measures and placements inquiry through teaching materials, digital resources, events and exhibitions that draw on results from NRP 76.
The Federal Office of Justice's "Remembering Tomorrow" programme deals with issues associated with compulsory social measures and placements (CSMP). The resources it provides include teaching materials, events, exhibitions and digital content. Much of the material is drawn from findings from National Research Programme 76 (NRP 76) "Welfare and Coercion" and the Independent Expert Commission (IEC) on Administrative Detention.
Teaching materials and learning app
As part of the first project for "Remembering Tomorrow", Bern University of Teacher Education has refined the IEC's online teaching resources. Subject-related dossiers have been added to the content, and the teaching materials are now available in French and Italian.
A new learning app with short videos will give students an insight into the fate of the people affected and the issue of CSMP. The app is being developed by the University of Teacher Education Lucerne in partnership with the Vaud and Ticino Universities of Teacher Education and the "Gesichter der Erinnerung" (faces of remembrance) association. It will be released in German, French and Italian at the end of 2024.
Touring nationwide exhibition
A nationwide exhibition will create a space for a public discussion of the issue. The touring exhibition will open at the Lausanne History Museum (Musée Historique Lausanne) on 30 October 2025. Between then and spring 2028, it will visit every region of Switzerland, starting with the Lucerne Historical Museum, then the Museum zu Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen and the Museum of Castelgrande in Bellinzona before completing its tour at Kornhausforum Bern.
Funding for education
In the period leading up to 2028, the Federal Office of Justice is funding educational projects that deal with findings from scientific research. Funding can take the form of financial contributions to book publishing costs, exhibitions, stage productions (theatre or music), conferences, training events or other projects.
